If you are a candidate for tooth extraction then you are also in need of tooth replacement. You have to replace those extracted teeth with individual teeth or possibly with dentures. When I talk about individual teeth I am talking about two or three teeth which could be placed in the sockets where the teeth were removed, and then bonded to each other and also to the anchor teeth right beside them. If however, you have had all your teeth extracted you may then want to think about having removable acrylic dentures. Everybody knows what the traditional, removable acrylic dentures look like. On the other hand, you may want to get permanent dentures. The permanent dentures are likewise known as implants. Implants are put into the mouth surgically and set on about three screws which are placed into the upper or lower jaw. These particular screws will function as the mount which holds the permanent dentures in place. The permanent dentures can be placed into the mouth immediately after extraction or later on. The best way to get implants set into place is right after the extraction. The denture will be fixed into the ridge made by the extraction. When you insert you implants in this way then you will feel as if you have your natural teeth, because you have never been without teeth. When you wait, then you might have been without your teeth for a while, and when these implants are put in place they will feel foreign. It can also take you longer to get used to having teeth in your mouth again. Before you decide what kind of dentures you want, you need to do a little homework or research. When you have found the different kinds of dentures to choose from, talk to your dentist about what you have found and check if he has anything else to offer. He may tell you what type of dentures would be best for you. You can now make a decision. On the other hand, there is still one more thing you have to do in order to make sure that your decision is a good one. Another thing that you have to do is check out your insurance plan, to find out if it covers the type of denture that you have decided on. Not all insurance companies cover dental work, and most particularly dentures. You will want to talk to your insurance company about the denture which you decided on and see if your current insurance plan covers the particular denture. If it does not cover the denture which you have decided on then ask the kind of denture it does cover. The same is applicable to those that have Medicare or Medicaid. Medicare will only cover the extraction and not the denture. In order to know what Medicaid covers you must talk to your counselor at the Department of Human Services. Considering these two programs to see which one will cover the denture that you want should be done prior to telling your dentist what your decision will be. You would not want to make the arrangements and begin the work only to learn that you cannot afford to pay for it.
